The Watercolour Collection Hero Image

Drawn from vintage textiles, weaving and embroideries, the Watercolour Collection is a series of painterly, colourful wallpapers and fabrics.

The original patterns have been hand-painted in a broad and light manner and many of the marks wash into and blot the paper. It’s these imperfections that give the designs a natural and spontaneous character.

Cross-cultural inspiration includes threadbare rugs from the Middle East, dyed and bleached fabric from Japan and decorative European needlepoint.

The Watercolour Collection has a cheerful, bold, artistic character perfect for bright bedrooms, charming powder rooms or welcoming holiday homes.

TAPESTRY

TAPESTRY is based on an old, worn out diamond Kilim. The blotted and washed-in watercolour effects are intended to represent the faded and frayed sections of the woven rug. We loved the look so much these ‘imperfect’ painterly marks have since become a signature style in many of our designs.

KILIM

KILIM is a large-scale geometric pattern based on the traditional Middle Eastern rug. Kilims are handmade flat-woven rugs traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire and often feature motifs significant to the life of the village in which they’re made.

LINEA

LINEA is a soft and shadowy geometric design with a ‘papery’ quality. The bleached lines are similar in style to Itajime Shibori, the Japanese resist dying technique of creating patterned fabric.

MORPH

MORPH is a soft washy design painted using wet ink on wet paper, which allows the colour to bleed into the background. The honeycomb pattern is a traditional Japanese Shibori design.

BARGELLO

BARGELLO is a large scale design with washes of watercolour layered in graded translucent shades. It’s inspired by the embroidered cloth of the same name, from the Bargello Palace in Florence. Also called ‘Flame Stitch’.

MILL

MILL is our play on a Chinese trellis design. The coloured ‘parallelogram’ shapes are set out in a circular formation that look a little like windmills, hence the name Mill.
